About Program

We live in the age of information and communication, and computers take an ever increasing role in our lives. The deepening use of computers in every walk of science and engineering exhibits an increasing need for well-trained experts who can utilize computer technology efficiently.

Computer Engineering Department has initiated the undergraduate program in Fall 2003-2004, and the graduate program in Spring 2004.

The faculty consists of experts in various computer engineering fields. Each member, and the supporting academic staff, are experienced in both academia and/or industry, with proven track records.

In order to attain a higher level of instructional quality, the department admits only a limited number of students each year. Admission is through the University Entrance Examination (ÖSS). Students with deficiencies in English are required to attend Language Preparatory School prior to starting their formal engineering education.

The undergraduate/graduate curricula have been prepared to match international educational standards and trends. Students with good academic standing are encouraged to spend one or two semesters in universities abroad as visiting students. Students are also encouraged to carry out the mandatory second- and third-year summer training sessions in institutions abroad.

The undergraduate curriculum includes theoretical topics such as programming languages, operating systems, computer networks, data structures, as well as applied technological studies in software and hardware. Some of these topics are:

. Information technologies

. Internet/web design techniques and software tools,

. Computer networks and communication protocols,

. Microprocessor hardware and software,

. Distributed, parallel hardware and software,v . 3-D graphic applications and standards,

. Robotics, automation,

. Computer aided design,

. Software engineering, CASE tools,

. Functional languages and applications,

In addition, students can select courses from a spectrum of topics reflecting emerging technologies and state of the art tools.

Goals

The Computer Engineering program has three strongly inter-related goals. 1) Teaching the theoretical foundations of computers as a scientific discipline, 2) Analysis of mathematical model creation and processing in problem solving as an engineering discipline, 3) Teaching and practicing of modern software/hardware tools and methods in problem solving as a practical engineering discipline.

Summary of Program Outcomes

Identify, formulate and solve complex engineering problems; Select and apply appropriate analysis and modeling techniques for this purpose. Design a complex system, process, device or product, under realistic constraints and conditions, so as to meet specific design requirements and implement modern design methods for this purpose.
