About Program

The Stem Cell Institute is the first institute established with the mission to serve Stem Cells and Regenrative Medicine in Turkey. The vision of the Institute is to develop more economic and rapidly evolving novel therapies to treat diseases in the field of stem cells and regenerative medicine and to achieve the National and International Center of Excellence within the body of our University. Under the scope of studies to be done at the Center of Excellence, there shall be necessity for personnel with at least a PhD degree specific to the said field. With the contribution of such personnel, the Center of Excellence shall pioneer national and international research in the ever evolving field of stem cells and regenrative medicine.

Goals

The aim of such a PhD program is to raise expert-trained researchers who can keep up with innovation, work within different disciplines and translate their background onto practice. As a result, a sufficient number of experts shall be attained for developing safe, efficient and qualified treatment methods for many diseases in a shorter period of time, more ecnomically. Students raised within the scope of the proposed PhD program shall be acknowledged of implementation of cell-based products and drugs, ethical principles to be followed and relevant legislation, in addition to fundamental scientific education. Subsequently, PhD graduates shall have become recognizable renowned in the field of stem cells and regenerative medicine worldwide.

Summary of Program Outcomes

Such as the case worlwide, implementation and legislative studies related to stem cells and regenerative medicine are rapidly evolving in our country. However, even if national legislation stipulates so, expertise programs specifically designed for training in cell and tissue banking, cell-based product manufacturing procedures, and donation and transplantation ethics do not exist yet in Turkey. The proposed PhD program promises researchers who shall be raised for the potential contribution to the clinical and industrial development of stem cells and relevant other cell resources and regenerative medicine which will manifest products manufactured from donated human tissues to treat various chronic and life-threatening diseases. This PhD program is planned to fill in this substantial gap. Stem cells and regenerative medicine are an intact area. Due to this, this subject is not a specific agenda in any PhD programs in our University or other educational associations in Turkey.
