About Program
The Faculty of Languages and History-Geography, Art History Department was established by Prof. Dr. Katharina Otto-Dorn, coming from Heidelberg University in 1954. While it was the Chair of Art History and Turkish Art, then the Art History Chair in the early years, after been a branch under the Department of Archaeology and Art History between the years 1982-1998, as of the arrangements in the academic staff it has become the Art History Department since 1998.
Goals
Aim of the education and the teaching Art History is training of Art Historians who have ability of tracing the rising and the past-contemporary stages of the plastic arts branches, that containing the painting, the sculpture, the architecture and the handcrafts; and who able to inspect and comprehend the mutual influence with other cultural environments and who know main periods of Byzantine, Islamic, European and Turkish Art; and who gained to practice the methods and the skills of the presentation, the commenting, the examining, the documenting, the research of the unknowns in Art History.
Summary of Program Outcomes
Graduates are able to define the basic concepts and terminology of art history and relationship between other disciplines. Describe emerging and main stages of art. Clasify plastic arts in terms of color, texture, line, shape, space, size, scent, materials, information, area, stylistic variety. Examine research methods in art history.
