About Program

The Department of Child Development trains Child Development Specialists who can evaluate 0-18 year-old normally developing or disabled, orphaned, working, immigrant, delinquent and hospitalized children’s mental, linguistic, motor, social and emotional development and self-care skills, and who can help children, families, educators and the society in supporting all areas of development and skills. The person, who are graduated from this program, works as a child specialist in some private and public institutions.

Child development specialists, who take on tasks as determining and promoting development of children who are the foundation of the society, guiding the families and educators on development of children, directing to prepare appropriate curricula and raising awareness of the society; plat a an important role for a modern and conscious society which is consist of healthy and successful people. Gradually increasing and diversifying of problems of children and families, puts forward the importance of child development field.

Students graduate from the Department of Child Development equipped with the knowledge and skills to determine children’s levels of development in all areas; design programs and organize contexts appropriate with their levels of development; follow and organize children’s development in various areas; prepare curricula; counsel and cooperate with families, persons and institutions involved in child development about the field; raise social awareness in these issues; and coordinating and working with child and family-related disciplines. To graduate from Child Development Undergraduate Program, students must be successful at cources in the program, graduate thesis and summer internship; and take 152 credits.

The aim of the summer internship, which is planned as made in sixth semester in child development undergraduate program, is providing students’ hands-on learning of knowledge of child development. The summer internship enforces under the supervision of faculty members and their assistants. At the end of the third year, it’s wanted that students do the summer internship for six weeks in primary health care centers, family health center, hospitals, public education centers, preschools, special education centers, psychological counseling and guidance centers, and other institutions and centers. Accordingly, it’s aimed that students have the practice chance by using the professional knowledge which are had for three years, by this way they consolidate their knowledge and skills and provide a basis for the other practices that they wil have in forth year.

Graduated from the program, given the title of child development specialists.

Goals

The aim of the Department of Child Development is to train Child Development Specialists who can evaluate 0-18 year-old normally developing or disabled, orphaned, working, immigrant, delinquent and hospitalized children’s mental, linguistic, motor, social and emotional development and self-care skills, and who can help children, families, educators and the society in supporting all areas of development and skills. 

Summary of Program Outcomes

Students explain the concepts, theories, national and international practices and relations between concepts about the child development. Students explain developmental and learning features, developmental disorders and learning difficulties of children. Students have the knowledge of education programs, teaching methods and techniques, assessment and evaluation about child development.
