About Program
Our department, which was established as the Art History and Turkish Art Chair in 1954 within the Faculty of Language, History and Geography and continues its education under the name of Art History today, has diversified its rich subject portfolio covering the logic and thematic fields of Art History in undergraduate and graduate course programs until today. With a four-year undergraduate program that includes specialization, it is planned to open a "non-thesis master's program" in order to meet the demands of the society, with an approach that differs from the master's and doctorate programs with thesis that meet an academic orientation.
Goals
In addition to the existing conventional studies, due to the new developments in interdisciplinary scientific studies and the new needs and orientations in the field of social sciences in the context of the internationalization vision, and the remarkable interest and curiosity in the history of art and culture in our country, especially in recent years; the necessity of making art history the center of attention of the society as a social history field has arisen. On the other hand, it can be mentioned that due to the COVID-19 global epidemic, especially in the past year, the increasing number of art history trainings on social media platforms has made it compulsory to draw these certification processes into an academic field. It is envisaged that the curriculum of the program proposed to be opened will support the policy of "lifelong learning" and will make significant contributions to our university's mission of contributing to society through the awareness of protecting and keeping the cultural heritage alive.
