About Program

Child abuse and neglect is an important public health problem with not only medical but also legal and social aspects that affect the individual, society, social institutions, legal systems, education system and business areas, and can cause serious injuries, disabilities and even deaths. This problem, which has the risk of affecting the whole society, and even the future of the society, is not a self-limiting situation unless it is intervened. There is absolutely a need for a conscious, effective and widespread struggle.Protection of children and prevention of possible risks are handled with a modern approach. In this context, primary, secondary and tertiary protection studies; It covers the works carried out to prevent all kinds of violence against children in the whole society, to eliminate the risks that may harm children, to prevent the re-traumatization of the traumatized children, and to eliminate the effects of their existing problems in the future. The program is carried out with the cooperation and coordination of stakeholder disciplines involved in the fight against child abuse and neglect. Thus, it will be possible for the information produced to carry the intervention to the most effective level.

Goals

The main purposes of the Interdisciplinary Child Protection Master Program are to train well-equipped and competent scientists and experts to work with the awareness of the need for a conscious and effective intervention with the problem of child abuse and neglect and to provide basic competences for the further work of professionals who want to work academically in the field of child protection. The program aims to develop child protection policies by conducting scientific studies in the field of child protection, to conduct interventions based on evidence, and to increase the effectiveness of child protection practices with the contributions of experts from different disciplines trained to work in this field.

Summary of Program Outcomes

Within the scope of the program learning outcomes; Students are been expected to know child development, children's rights, situations that pose a risk to child abuse and neglect, to be able to recognize the signs and symptoms of children who have been abused or neglected, to be able to determine the most appropriate medical and psychosocial intervention, and to have sufficient knowledge about providing legal support. In addition, in order to protect children from abuse and neglect, they should be able to develop child protection programs within the understanding of primary, secondary and tertiary protection, contribute to the strengthening of existing programs, and support children within the scope of efforts to empower children.
