Goals Learning the criteria with which to evaluate Turkish literary texts by getting familiar with the characteristics of content and form of the Western literary texts, becoming capable of analyzing and critically evaluating the Turkish literature which developed under Western influence.
Course Content In this course in which the Western Literature will be generally discussed within the historical development process beginning from the Ancient Age, major Western writers and men of letters and some classical work will be introduced. In parallel with the historical development of the Western literature, Western literary movements which have affected the world literature and literary texts which belong to those movements will be worked on.
Learning Outcomes 1) Examines the influence of Greek-Roman literature on Western literature
2) Starting from the Ancient Age, describes the developmental stages of Western literature within the historical process.
3) Examines Western Literature comparatively.
4) Knows Western writers, literary figures, and read their works.
5) In parallel with the historical development of Western literature, examines Western literary movements which also affect world literature.
6) Analyzes, interprets and discusses the influences of Western literary movements on Turkish literature.
7) Discusses and interprets the historical, political, economic and social conditions that create the main literary movements that shaped Western literature; and examines their effects..
8) Develops research methods and techniques.
