Goals To teach the semantic features of Turkish words, idioms, formulaic expressions, the units comprising the vocabulary and to show how the units comprising the vocabulary are discussed.
Course Content In this course, the basic concepts of lexicology are examined; the semantic features of Turkish words, the types of meaning, semantic changes, meaning relations among words are mentioned. The formation of idioms in Turkish, the basic principles and methods of lexicography and the history of Turkish lexicography are examined.
Learning Outcomes 1) The basic principles and concepts of Turkish lexicology are learned.
2) The types of meaning are learned and the processes for gaining meaning of words are comprehended.
3) Semantic changes in Turkish words are learned.
4) Meaning relations among words are learned.
5) The items comprising Turkish vocabulary are learned.
6) The basic concepts of lexicoghaphy and the types of dictionaries are learned.
7) Historical and modern Turkish language dictionaries are known
