Goals To teach the principles of Turkish syntax, basic concepts, constructions and patterns; to enable comprehension of Turkish sentence structures and formations with examples.
Course Content In this course, subjects of “phrase structure” and “sentence” which are basic terms of syntax are discussed. Phrase structures in Turkish, their formations and features, sentence structure, syntactic features of Turkish sentences, word order, constituents of sentence are mentioned. Types of sentence are examined too.
Learning Outcomes 1) Basic terms and concepts of syntax which is one of the component of grammar are learned.
2) With reference to modern syntax theories, phrases and sentence structures are determined.
3) Phrase types and sentence types in Turkish are learned, these are determined in texts.
4) Obligatory and optional constituents forming sentence are learned.
5) Syntactic analysis are done in written and spoken texts.
6) Comparing Turkish with other languages in terms of phrase structure and sentence structure, similar and different features are determined.
