Goals The main aim of this course is to equip students with the skills required to translate literary and audio-visual texts effectively. By providing students with the opportunity to translate various types of texts, including literary works as well as advertisements, film subtitles, and graphic novels, the course aims to help students understand and apply translation techniques across different text genres. Additionally, the course offers opportunities for students to enhance their creative and critical aspects of translation and emphasizes the importance of language, culture, and expression skills in the translation process.
Course Content This course covers a wide range of translations, including literary texts and audio-visual materials. Students will learn to translate literary works such as novels, short stories, and poems, as well as written and visual materials like advertising posters, graphic novels, and film subtitles. Throughout the course, students will learn translation techniques, explore the significance of cultural codes in translation, and address language and cultural differences between texts. Moreover, students will be introduced to translation tools and technologies and will engage in practical exercises to develop their translation skills. Thus, the course provides students with the necessary knowledge and experience to succeed in translating literary and audio-visual texts effectively.
Learning Outcomes 1) Students will gain the skill to translate various types of texts, ranging from literary works to advertisements, film subtitles, and graphic novels. This outcome enables students to understand and translate different text genres effectively.
2) Students will recognize and address the cultural differences and codes during the translation process. This outcome strengthens students' ability to understand cultural codes encountered in translation and to process them appropriately in translation.
3) Students will develop creative and critical thinking skills in the translation process, learning to effectively convey the language and expressive features of texts. This outcome enhances students' ability to produce flexible and original solutions during the translation process.
