Goals The major goal is to provide the students with the general knowledge on pomology. The students receive a theoretical background and practical training.
Course Content The history of fruit culture, economic importance, species and cultivars, rootstocks, biological, morphological and physiological characteristics, environmental aspects, orchard planning and establishment, cultural practices (training and pruning, thinning, tillage, weed control, fertilization, irrigation, plant protection) nursery tree production and harvest management.
Learning Outcomes 1) Identify fruit species and cultivars growing in Turkey and abroad, may evaluate their contribution to the economy, gains general knowledge about their environmental aspects and morphological, biological physiological characteristics.
2) Knows the orchard planning and establishment, rootstocks, orchard cultural practices ((training and pruning, thinning, tillage, weed control, fertilization, irrigation, plant protection).
3) Knows nursery tree production methods and may follow and incorporate recent technological advances.
4) Knows harvest indices of fruits and harvest management.
