Goals The main purpose of the course is to investigate the research/application methods and techniques in geological studies. It is aimed to identify problems in geology, revealing the methods/techniques that can be applied in systematical problem solving, obtaining and interpreting data and sharing results/suggestions, all in the framework of scientific research principles and rules.
Course Content The concept and history of geology; Science, Engineering, Scientific research, and Ethics; Theory and Philosophy of Research Methods in Geology; Research methods and applications in sub-divisions of geology; Identifying problems and producing scientific solutions in preparation and presentation of a thesis, article, and technical reports.
Learning Outcomes 1) Define the basic principles of Geology
2) Define and evaluate the concepts of science, engineering and ethics
3) Explain the stages of scientific research and clarify mistakes in the scope of scientific research
4) Express and compare research methods in Geology
5) Define, evaluate and adapt structural Geology, tectonics, stratigraphy, paleontology, geomorphology and Quaternary Geology studies
6) Evaluate, and adapt concepts, methods and applications of metallic, non-metallic mineral deposits and energy source
7) Evaluate and adapt concepts, methods, application-techniques in engineering Geology
8) Evaluate and adapt concepts, methods and applications of hydrogeology and enviromental Geology
9) Compares and adapts new concepts, methods and applications in Earth Science
10) Identifies and demonstrates the concepts, methods and applications of writing/publishing of the thesis, article, research project, presentation summary
