Goals Introduction to geophysical engineering in terms of science and engineering concepts. Explaination of what the application fields and main geophysical methods together with their principles used in those application fields..
Course Content Evaluation of geophysics in terms of the Science and engineering. Classification of geophysics and its application fields. Features of the Solar System. Structure and composition of the Earth. Main methods in global and exploration geophysics. Methods of Gravity, Magnetic, natural/artifcial Electric and Electromagnetic, Seismic Reflection and Refraction, Ground Penetrating Radar. Usage of geophysics in exploration of Hydrocarbon, Mining, Groundwater and other natural sources. Causes and effects of earthquakes. The geography of the earthquake. Earth structure in terms seismologically. Earthquake prediction researchs. Usage of geophysical methods in ground-structure interaction and earthquake hazard reduction.
Learning Outcomes 1) Defines geophysics in terms of science and engineering.
2) Knows structrue of the solar system, planets and the earth.
3) Clasifies geophysics and explains its application fields.
4) Gives information about principles of the geophysical methods and explains which method will be applied for a defined problem
5) Explains the occurrence of an earthquake by establishing a relationship between earthquakes and plate tectonics theory
