Goals Aim of the course is to improve the geology engineer candidate's ability to study in the field, and to provide them with the expertise, to recognize and define the rock units (sedimentary, magmatic, metamorphic) and geological structures that outcrops in the mapping area, to record these geological aspects systematiclly to determine geological age relationship, to form stratigraphic columns and cross-sections, to draw a geologic map on the base map, and to prepare a geological report with considering of all these data.
Course Content Field geology and basic observational principles used in field geology; Geological field equipment and its use; An overview of the health and safety requirements in the field; Stratigraphic relationships and nomenclature; Geology of the study area and its surroundings; Geological history of the region; Topographical base map; Geological mapping techniques; Recording features and mapping of igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks; Recording features and mapping of geological structures; Principles of writing geological report; Field studies and making a field map
