Goals Jeoloji Mühendisi esas olarak, daha önce hiç çalışılmamış veya çalışılmış herhangi bir arazi parçasında bulunan kayaç topluluklarını sınıflayarak jeolojik haritasını yapabilen, jeolojik yapılarla ilgili gözlemler yaparak bunu haritaya işleyebilen, önemli hatlar boyunca kesitler hazırlayan ve bu arazi parçasında bulunan kayaç topluluklarının stratigrafisini oluşturabilen kişi olarak tanımlanır. Bu ders kapsamında Jeoloji Mühendisi adaylarına, bu dalı diğer mühendislik dallarından ayıran yegane özellik olan jeolojik harita alımı becerisini, teorik bazda ve arazide bizzat uygulamalı olarak kazandırmak amaçlanmaktadır.

Learning Outcomes 1) Topoğrafik Haritayı okur, arazide yerini bulur. GPS kullanır.
2) Düzlemsel ve çizgisel yapıları ölçer, harita üzerine yerleştirir. Jeolog pusulası kullanır.
3) Jeolojik birimlerin arasındaki ilişkiyi gözler, v-kuralına uygun harita üzerine aktarır.
4) Jeolojik birimlerin 3 boyutlu uzanımlarını tasarlar ve jeolojik kesitler çizer.
5) Jeolojik birimler üzerindeki gözlemleri sonucu bölgesel stratigrafiyi ortaya koyar.
6) Grup halinde ve bireysel olarak çalışır, çözülecek problemi öngörür ve çözüm için arazide izlenecek rotaya karar verir ve harcanacak zamanı hesaplar.
7) Çalışma alanına ait rapor hazırlar.
