Goals To teach main fossil groups (macro and micro fauna)and their basic information
Course Content Value of paleontologic studies in geologic exploration. Sampling and sample preparation techniques. Fossilization. Classification of the major fossil groups. Invertebrate fossils including microfossils such as foraminifera, nannoplanktons, calpionellids and radiolaria. Other invertebrates: Coelenterate, Brachiopod, Bryozoans, Mollusk (gastropods, bivalves and cephalopods), Arthropods (Trilobite), Echinoderm and Graptolites. A brief explanation on vertebrates. Their general features and selected index genus and species. Fossils as chronometers of the Phanerozoic and as paleoenvironmental and paleogeographic indicators
Learning Outcomes 1) They learn various microfossil groups
2) They learn various macrofossil groups
3) They give relative ages of rocks by using fossil data
4) They interprate paleoenvironments of rocks and geological history
5) They interprate boundaries and relationship between geological units and economic values such as petroleum and coals.
