Goals The course aims to teach students the application of economic methods to health field in order to improve the health status and the health system overall.
Course Content This course will cover the historical development of health economics, fundamental concepts of health economics, supply and demand of health services, market failure and health services, health care financing and health expenditures, the relationship between economic growth and development and health sector, the relationship between the economic and social planning and health sector, economic evaluation techniques for health services, and pharmacoeconomics.
Learning Outcomes 1) Explains the definition, importance and development of health economics.
2) Explains the supply and demand of health care services.
3) Tells the determination of health care services' demand and supply.
4) Analyses the national and international health expenditure and compare them.
5) Compares the different health financing systems on the basis of functions of health financing.
6) Explains the relationship among the economic growth, development and health sector.
7) Explains the importance of health sector for economic and social planning.
8) Lists the economic evaluation techniques in the health sector.
