Goals The aim of this course is to learn the basic concepts of midwifery, the connections between concepts, the principles and methods of basic care practices.
Course Content This course includes introduction to the concept of midwifery, historical development of the midwifery profession in the world and in Turkey, health care system, health team, duties, powers and responsibilities of the midwife, international midwifery philosophy, models in midwifery, theories, ethical principles in midwifery, midwifery legislation, basic concepts of midwifery: human, environment, health-disease, midwifery, basic human needs and daily life activities, admission of the individual to the health institution and discharge process, history taking and communication, care process, homeostasis, adaptation, stress, shock, pain and care approaches, sleep and rest, warmth -Includes cold applications, movement requirements, body mechanics, handling and positioning principles, employee safety, patient safety, infection control and waste management practices, individual hygiene practices, vital signs and medication applications.
Learning Outcomes 1) Explains the historical development of the midwifery profession in the world and in Turkey.
2) Defines the philosophy of midwifery and ethical principles in midwifery.
3) Defines the basic concepts of midwifery.
4) Explains the problem solving approach.
5) Knows evidence-based practices in midwifery practices.
6) Evaluates the health needs of the individual, family and society with a holistic approach.
7) Applies basic professional practices in a laboratory environment.
