Goals The aim of the course is to teach students the ways of analyzing folklore texts with psychoanalytic theory, which is one of the text-centered folklore theories, and one of the ways of analyzing the students in detail.
Course Content This theoretical approach, which attracted attention for the first time with Ernest Jones' speech entitled "psychoanalytic folklore" in a meeting with a wide participation in 1928, later advanced with the studies of ethnologist Géza Róheim, and today it has become one of the five most common text-centered folklore theories in the world. In this course, folklore texts will be analyzed with a psychoanalytic perspective, both as one of the most important social science theories of the twentieth century and as one of the folklore text-centered theories.
Learning Outcomes 1) Student apply psychoanalytic folklore theory to folklore material.
2) Students apply psychoanalytic terms in folklore research.
