Goals In this course, students are expected to outline the procedures to be followed in the evaluations of student with special needs, to choose and apply the suitable assessment tools for the purpose of the assessment, to report the assessment results in a way that will allow the devloping of a program, to have knowledge about the concept and content of IEP, to determine the performance level for program development, to describe and discuss different ways to write down the level of performance, to set short and long-term goals suitable for the current performance level of the student, to prepare instructional goals in accordance with the long and short-term goals in the IEP and to establish the relationship between the long-term goal, short-term goal, criterion-dependent measurement tool statements and instructional goals created during the IEP preparation process.
Course Content 1. The historical, legal and philosophical basis of assessment, 2. The process of educational assessment, 3. Formal and informal assessment methods, 4. Skills analysis, 5. Criterion-based tests, 6. study sample analysis, 7. a single- and multiple-opportunity evaluation approach, 8. non detailed and detailed assessment, 9. curriculum-based assessment and review of the curriculum, 10. Observation, 11. Individualized Education Programs (IEP); Elements of the IEP; Legal basis of IEP; IEP and school programs (preschool, primary education programs), 12. IEP and Individualized Family service plans (IFSP) and Transition; IFSP, IEP and transition plan adaptations and considerations for individuals with special education needs; Monitoring and evaluation of IEP, IFSP and transition plans, 13.preperation of IEP, 14. relating each of the goals created during the teaching process' preparatory phase to the others.
Learning Outcomes 1) Gains knowledge about the historical development of evaluation in special education.
2) Gains knowledge about educational evaluation processes in special education in Turkey.
3) Gains knowledge about formal and informal assessment methods.
4) Identifies and prepares informal assessment tools effectively.
5) Defines IEP and IFSP and their contents.
6) Determines the current performance level of the student with the data obtained after the evaluation.
7) Creates long and short-term goals according to the current performance level.
8) Prepares IEP.
9) Creates instructional goals according to the goals in IEP.
