Goals The aims of this course are to evaluate the developments in the period extending from the invention of the cinema to the 1960s within the context of countries, historical events and different cultural climates; to explain relationship between the film, industry, technology, audience and creativity; to describe differences emerging in filmic narratives in a critical perspective/approach.
Course Content In the light of a social, cultural and economic background, film production and existing film movements emerging in different countries are discussed in a historical process beginning from the invention of the cinema to the 1960s.
Learning Outcomes 1) Clarify the difference between film history and chronology.
2) Analyze film's relationship with the cultural, economic and social structure in which it is produced.
3) Analyze how current events are represented in the movie.
4) Explain how movies affect people's perspective towards the world.
5) Evaluate the historical evolution of the cinema.
6) Explain the new approaches and methods of cinema historiography within a critical point of view.
7) Evaluate specific aspects of national cinemas within the framework of relations to each other.
8) Explain how industrial and technological structure impacts the cinema.
9) Compare differences of national cinemas which have various narrative styles.
