Goals * To understand the religious and cultural dimension of European Art * To understand the power of architecture in reflecting the social and political order * To understand the effect of social, religious, economic, political, climatic and technological aspects on typological changes in architecture * To gain a general perspective on history and to master in the terminology of European Art
Course Content The spread of Christianity, the Christianization of the European continent, the pragmatic structure of European culture who incorporate Christianity into previous cultural structures, Monasteries, Pilgrimage Routes, Crusaders, Relics, saint cults are among the themes in this course. In this course, revealing the parallel structure between culture and architecture, different aspects of architecture and art in European Art as a reflection of culture are evaluated. Students are expected to participate to the discussions, to follow the weekly readings given and do their assignments.
