Goals To be able to evaluate the profession of architecture and its work by analyzing the examples from world architecture in a historical and cultural context, to recognize the international architectural styles, to perceive the differences between styles, to comprehend the structural and stylistic contexts of the buildings while mastering on the terminology of the recent architectural history.
Course Content The social and economic changes, which are called as modernity was a result of the Industrial Revolution, have also been reflected in the architectural field. The socio-economic background of these transformative movements in architecture will be discussed within the scope of the course. The 19th and 20th century art movements and artists with their contemporary architectural theories will be analyzed. Contemporary architectural practices will be evaluated in the context of building technology and social needs of the current society.
Learning Outcomes 1) Uses the theoretical knowledge and learns about contemporary architectural movements for the evaluation of contemporary buildings.
2) Learns the effects of cultural and technological influences on the formation of architectural history.
3) Learns the development of European architectural and urban history.
