About Program
Sub-Department of Theatre History and Theory which requires a special talent examination for entry is one of the three majors of Drama Department. The department which provides training for theatre history and theory follows a syllabus which focuses on both from the ancient Greek drama to the contemporary one and from traditional Turkish drama to the contemporary one. In order to students’ correct interpretation by comprehending the history, the lectures are supported by minor disciplines and are given insight into the fields such as philosophy, psychology and history by using the course contents. The syllabus is enriched with both the common lectures in Sub-Department of Theatrical Writing and the selected lectures from other departments. Senior students write a graduation thesis by using their knowledge during the theoretical and practical training process.
Goals
The aim of the program is to train academician, dramaturgist, director and qualified people who have knowledge of the cultural, historical, social, economic, political, philosophic, scientific and literary developments which shaped in Turkish and world theatre from the beginning until today; who adopt scientific thinking; who have the capability of creative and critical thinking.
Summary of Program Outcomes
The student learns discussing the development of theatre in Turkey from the point of cultural, political and socio-economic development of Turkish society and gets a fundamental line on Turkish theatre from past to present.The student gets a fundamental and general line on the history and theory of theatre from the Ancient Greek to present.The student gets a fundamental and general line on dramaturgy.
