About Program
There are four departments in Sociology: "General Sociology and Methodology", "Sociology of Institutions", "Applied Sociology" and "Social Stcructure and Change".
The basic courses given within the scope of Sociology Undergraduate Program are: Introduction to Sociology, Sociology of Institutions, Introduction to Law, History of Sociology, Rural Sociology, Economics, Field Research, Qualitative Analyses, Sociology of Family, Statistics, Methhods and Approaches in Sociology, Sociology of Organization, Social Change, Urban Sociology, Sociology of Crime, Sociology of Development, Social Structure of Ottoman Society, Social Structure of Turkey, Social Stratification, Social Movements, Identity and Biases, Political Sociology, Sociology of Literature, Contemporary Sociological Theories, Sociology of Communication, Sociology of Environment, Contemporary Sociological Debates, Classical Sociological Theories, Sociology of Occupations and Professions, Women Studies.
Graduates of Sociology Undergraduate Program are entitled to acquire "Bachelor's Degre of Ankara University/ Faculty of Language and History-Geography" as being "Sociologist".
Goals
Sociologists constitutively examine social relations introduced by the collective life and principles determining the foundations and evolutions of social institutions by analysing historical documents and conducting field researches supported by interview/survey/observation techniques.They develop policies for educators, legislators and planning specialists by a precise collection and interpretation of the knowledge based on the structure of society. Additively, sociologists can be specialized within the domains of family, crime, industry and agriculture, rural-urban settlements, social ecology, political sociology or sociology of law.
Summary of Program Outcomes
In the framework of undergraduate programme of the Department of Sociology, students acquire a set of proficiencies. Accordingly, a sociology graduate holds the degree with the merits of knowledge skills, particularly on history of sociology and various sociological perspectives and approaches. Besides, graduates assembly various skills to analyze social structures, relations and processes, in different historical and spatial settings and contexts. Moreover, sociology graduates in our department develop an insight to examine and explicate interrelationships between the sociology and some other disciplines in the field of social sciences.
