About Program
Sub-Department of Theatre History and Theory which requires a special talent examination for entry is one of the three majors of Drama Department. The department which provides training for theatre history and theory follows a syllabus which focuses on both from the ancient Greek drama to the contemporary one and from traditional Turkish drama to the contemporary one. In order to students’ correct interpretation by comprehending the history, the lectures are supported by minor disciplines and are given insight into the fields such as philosophy, psychology and history by using the course contents. The syllabus is enriched with both the common lectures in Sub-Department of Theatrical Writing and the selected lectures from other departments. Senior students write a graduation thesis by using their knowledge during the theoretical and practical training process.
Sub-Department of Theatrical Writing which requires a special talent examination for entry is one of the three majors of Drama Department. The department which provides training for theatrical writing techniques study the changes and conversions of the dramatic forms from the ancient Greek texts to the contemporary texts. In order to students’ correct interpretation by comprehending the history, the lectures are supported by minor disciplines and are given insight into the fields such as philosophy, psychology and history by using the course contents. The students use the theoretical studies in applied courses. The syllabus is enriched with both the common lectures in Sub-Department of Theatre History and Theory and Sub-Department of Acting and the selected lectures from other departments. Senior students write a gradution play by using the knowledge they acquired during the theoretical and practical training process.
In the first year of undergraduate education on Sub-Department of Acting of Drama Department, the student comes at a more general basic knowledge of the role and how to prepare for a role in the research and gain the ability to make observations. The student is trained for using the voice and body. The student overlearns the knowledge acquired in his/her sophomore year by in-class practice. In junior and senior years, the student works with the group and the director during the staging process and deepens this ability by practice.
Goals
The aim of the program is to train academician, dramaturgist, director and qualified people who have knowledge of the cultural, historical, social, economic, political, philosophic, scientific and literary developments which shaped in Turkish and world theatre from the beginning until today; who adopt scientific thinking; who have the capability of creative and critical thinking.
The aim of the program is to train scholars and qualified writers who have both theoretical and practical knowledge of theatrical writing from the beginning until today; who follow the new trends on writing in their field; who have knowledge of the cultural, historical, social, economic, political, philosophic, scientific and literary developments which shape the analyzed work; who adopt scientific thinking; who have the capability of creative and critical thinking; and who protect common good.
The aim of the program is to train qualified artists who can think critically and creatively and develope a scientific and artistic view and using it efficiently by following the works on the acting field in the world and Turkey.
Summary of Program Outcomes
The student researches the changes in Turkish and world theatre and reviews play texts in each era contextually and formly. With the knowledge of the following his/her searches, the student gains writing experience. Also, the student matures at theatrical writing forms such as play texts, radio play text and scripting.
The student learns discussing the development of theatre in Turkey from the point of cultural, political and socio-economic development of Turkish society and gets a fundamental line on Turkish theatre from past to present. The student gets a fundamental and general line on the history and theory of theatre from the Ancient Greek to present. The student gets a fundamental and general line on dramaturgy.
