About Program

Main area of The Department of Pathophysiology  is to evaluate underlying the physiological and pathological processes or mechanisms of the diseases The course of pathophysiology teaches medical students to understand the pathogenesis of diseases and syndromes. Specific emphasize is put on the physiological mechanisms that underlie  the compensatory changes that eventually lead to disease-specific signs and symptoms.

Scientific interests at the department are mainly laboratory based and support a high-level of pathophysiology teaching. The main focus of the department is on the pathogenetic mechanisms of different diseases. Research areas of department are trace elements, oxidative and nitrosative stress, antioxidant mechanisms, inflammatory mediators in ischemia, cancer and in metabolic diseases and molecular mechanisms. Measurement of intracellular antioxidant enzyme (superoxide dismutase, catalase) activity levels , nitrosative and oxidative marker levels  (Malondialdehyde, nitric oxide). Pathophysiology laboratory  provides a broad array of routine and specialized clinical laboratory testing services on oxidative/nitrosative parameters, trace elements such as copper, zinc, magnesium, lithium and bor in blood  (serum, plasma, erythrocyte), inflammatory mediators, cytokine levels, apototic markers.

Nowadays; Pathophysiology Department is focused on the research-based teaching of the basis of disease at all levels of medical education and takes part in modern medicine with scientific papers and laboratory studies. Our department takes part in different research acitivities, routine laboratory and thesis of different departments

Goals

Pathophysiology is an integrative biomedical section that built around the basic and clinical scientific researches. Evaluation of pathophysiological mechanisms of diseases, symptoms, treatment and diagnosis are main content of area.

Summary of Program Outcomes

Develop and deepen the current and advanced knowledge in the field with original thought and/or research and come up with innovative definitions based on previous degree qualifications.-Conceive the interdisciplinary interaction which the field is related with ; come up with original solutions by using knowledge requiring proficiency on analysis, synthesis and assessment of new and complex ideas Evaluate and use new information within the field in a systematic approach.-Develop an innovative knowledge, method, design and/or practice or adapt an already known knowledge, method, design and/or practice to another field; research, conceive, design, adapt and implement an original subject. Critical analysis, synthesis and evaluation of new and complex ideas. Gain advanced level skills in the use of research methods in the field of study. Broaden the borders of the knowledge in the field by producing or interpreting an original work or publishing at least one scientific paper in the field in national and/or international refereed journals. Develop new ideas and methods in the field by using high level mental processes such as creative and critical thinking, problem solving and decision making. Demonstrate functional interaction by using strategic decision making processes in solving problems encountered in the field..
