On 30th November 2011, PhD Program of Social Work has been founded in Health Sciences Institution of Ankara University. There are 5 professors, 3 associate professors and 1 assistant professors in the department now.

In the program; basic concepts of social work, research current and information on advanced in social work fields, analyze new and complex views on social work fields, synthesis and evaluation, research methods and techniques,  social work practices, team work in social work are being taught within the must (Qualitative Research in Social Work, Quantitative Research in Social Work, Advanced Statistics in Social Work I-II, Social Work Practice I and II,Supervision in Social Work, Clinical Social Work, Macro Social Work) and elective (Social Relationship Network Analysis, Ethical Dilemmas in Social Work and Decision Making, Comparative Family Policies, the Psycho-Social Dimension of the Judicial System and Social Work, Development Models and Social Work, Quality Management in Human Service Organizations, Specific interventions for children at risk and in Need of Protection, Social Work Epistemology, etc.) courses.

The Social Work Doctoral Programme' s purpose is to bring students to research independently to make interpretation about scientific thing with broad vision and the skill of taking necessary step to achieve new synthesis. In this context, programme aims to provide doctoral students with research mentoring related to specific topics of interest; enhance the research and publication capability within the department of Social Work through additional doctoral level; prepare competent social work researchers to develop and evaluate policies and programs in the human services.

She/ he develops information about the current and advanced in the field of social work with original thinking and research level of expertise and adds the original concept to social work. She/ he gains an interdisciplinary specialization organized around a population (i.e., children, immigrants and refugees, older adults) and/or a social problem/issue (i.e., poverty, housing, trauma, health disparities) She/he reaches the original results using the specialized knowledges that contribute to the development of the profession. She/he has uses effectively the different research methods and techniques in advanced.Thanks to her/his own perspective and interdisciplinary vision, she/he carries the highest level of the social welfare. Social workers have the knowledge and skills to practice with individuals, families, groups, organizations and communities. Critically analyze theories, practices, policies, and research.Evaluate the relations among social work education, research, and practice.
