About Program
Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Property Undergraduate Program aims to train conservators-restorers who will carry out conservation and restoration processes of both movable and immovable archaeological and ethnographical cultural properties, which consist of both organic and inorganic materials, following international scientific criteria and professional ethics. The students who complete this program determine the material, the damage and deterioration on the material; choose the required applications and material to repair damages and bring deterioration under control and will plan and apply the entire process. They structure their planned processes according to their theoretical knowledge on the object/cultural property through determining problems, analysis and creating solutions and they write the required documents/reports.
Goals
The purpose of the Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Property Program is to train conservators-restorers who will fulfill their duties of conservation and restoration of Archeological and Ethnographical Cultural Properties following international scientific criteria and professional ethics. Curriculum is structured in three levels according to the purpose and the requirements of the profession (determination-diagnosis, planning, application and supervision) 1) Determining the material of the cultural properties, the damages/deteriorations on the material and their reasons 2) Choosing the most suitable conservation and restoration processes and materials which will both bring existing damages under control and ensure the conservation of the material, deciding on these interventions and planning the process 3) Ensuring the application of the planned conservation-restoration processes in the field, worksite or laboratory within the frame of professional ethics and regulations while taking universal aesthetic values into consideration. The fundamental principles of the program are to provide as much applied education as possible while keeping the balance with theoretical knowledge, to keep the education in international scientific levels, to emphasize inter-discipline approaches, to use approaches that increase the confidence of the student. These principles reflect the vision of the program. Additionally, providing degree completion opportunities to the students with associate degrees is among the purposes of the program.
