About Program
Department of Linguistics consists of Department of General Linguistics and Department of Applied Linguistics. Due to the nature of linguistics field, this department whose language of instruction is Turkish, students are accepted with their foreign language exam scores taken from SSPC (Student Selection and Placement Center) exams. Students who have mastered one or more language have great importance in terms of carrying a remarkable sensitivity to language system and exploring the materials in the field. This foreign language which is supported with foreing language courses during a four-year program is also important for job opportunities after graduation. Department of Linguistics in Ankara University, Faculty of Letters is the first linguistics department with its status of department and Turkish language instruction.
Goals
The main purpose of the program is to provide acquisition of knowledge about language(s) and their functions both comparative and applied studies, enhancement of foreign language courses, and in department program; and in general ensure students to have elaborate knowledge of the language and the language system, in particular the structure and function of Turkish language students during their education in a four-year. In addition to these, to provide the basis rules of science to students, to transmit scientific tradition and to inform students on this topic are always at the foreground of the purpose.
Summary of Program Outcomes
The program is aimed analysing and consideration scientific consequences of information related to linguistics; to reach information sources by using previous studies on linguistics; program have the abilities to convert linguistic information into a scientific text and to present it. Beside, interdisciplinary team works are carried out and linguistic information is used with consciousness of sociol responsibility .
