About Program
Guidance and Counseling Program is an undergraduate program carried out under the Faculty of Educational Sciences, Department of Educational Sciences. This program was first established in 1965 within the Department of Psychological Services in Education. In this respect, it is a pioneering program in the field of Counseling and Guidance in Türkiye. The language of instruction of the program is Turkish. The program accepts approximately 70-80 students each year. Program graduates are generally employed by institutions and organizations such as the Ministry of National Education, the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Services, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of National Defense, the General Directorate of Security, Special Education Institutions, Special Education and Rehabilitation Centers, Private Counseling Centers, and Family Counseling Centers. In this program, in addition to undergraduate education, postgraduate education is also offered at the master's and doctorate level. As of 2022 in the program; there are 3 Professors, 2 Associate Professors, 1 Assistant Professors, 2 Doctoral Lecturers and 3 Research Assistants (2 program Research Assistants, 1 research assistant continuing postgraduate education in our program on behalf of other universities). Guidance and Counseling undergraduate program consists of theoretical and applied courses and includes a total of 162 credits. The base score of our department, which accepts students with the EA score type, is 401,38837 and the success order is 34,530 in 2021.
Goals
The aim of this program is to train counselors who have grasped the new paradigms of the counseling profession in the 21st century Information Age; have adopted the humanist and existential philosophy of life; have conducted original research studies for the development of the counseling field by using scientific research skills; and also have provide preventive and protective mental health services at primary and secondary level in institutions such as education, health, industry, and justice.
Summary of Program Outcomes
Knowledge on basic concepts, theories and approaches of counselling and guidance field; applying theoretical knowledge, principles, and techniques in various working areas of counselling such as education, health, justice, industry etc., acknowledge humanistic values, appreciate importance of lifelong learning, believe in democracy, human rights, and ethical values.
