About Program
The program was opened in the 1997-1998 academic year within the scope of the Higher Education Institution's reorganization of teacher training programs and gave its first graduates in 2002. The Department of Elementary School Teacher Education aims to train experts in the field of classroom education and teachers who will work in primary schools. The program includes theoretical and applied courses that develop the knowledge and skills necessary to teach in the first four years of primary schools. Children's Literature, Basic Mathematics I-II, Turkish (Written Expression, Oral Expression), Primary Reading and Writing Teaching, Science and Technology Teaching I-II, Life Studies Teaching, Social Studies Teaching, Mathematics Teaching I-II, Turkish Teaching, Classroom Management Some of the courses offered in this program are Education in Multigrade Classes, Guidance, Music Teaching, Visual Arts Teaching, Drama, Art Education. In addition to establishing a theoretical basis in the courses given in the program, the necessary weight is given to practice. In the program, there are elective courses such as Technology and Mathematics Teaching, Speed Reading Techniques, Youth Sociology, Museum Education in Primary Education, Curriculum Development, Adult Education, Educational Economics that will support the personal development of students who will become classroom teachers.
Goals
The goal of this program is to educate individuals, who would be sensitive towards people, society and the nature, who would be aware of the impact of their individual and professional developments to society, who would be competent in their field and who would have ethical values, who would perceive continual improvement as the philosophy of their lives, who would embrace scientific thought, who would regard public policy, who would use information technology effectively, who could think creatively and critically, who would have acquired aesthetical sensitivities, as elementary school teachers.
Summary of Program Outcomes
Program graduates can reflect the philosophy of the elementary school program, its general characteristics and the requirements of each program element into educational practices based on the aims and principles of Turkish national education; acts in accordance with democracy, human rights, social, scientific, cultural values and professional ethical principles. Elementary School Education program graduates can establish connections with different disciplines and daily life in the teaching-learning process; can use the aesthetic point of view in all educational practices by giving importance to the teaching of artistic and sportive fields such as dance, creative drama, painting, music, physical education, visual arts and games; can make applications that will improve students' scientific process skills by developing an understanding of the importance of science; can use appropriate methods and techniques for the development of critical thinking, creative thinking, mathematical thinking, research, questioning and problem solving skills in students.
