About Program
Social Studies Education was launched in Ankara University Faculty of Educational Sciences in 1997-1998. Social Studies Education Program trains social studies teachers and supports the production of knowledge as a result of theoretical and applied research. In the program, there are theoretical and practical courses that develop the knowledge and skills required for a social studies teacher.
Goals
The aim of the social studies program is to train teachers who are informed with the specialized knowledge along with the knowledge of Ataturk's principles and objectives of Turkish National Education. Furthermore, it is also targeted that teachers are to be provided with the professional and liberal knowledge and international standards. They are expected to follow the innovations closely, to use the educational technologies effectively, to work with 5., 6., 7. and 8. graders. It is also hoped that social studies teachers have the capacity to think critically and to receive critism responsibly. In addition, prospective teachers are expected to follow innovations closely and to use educational technologies effectively.
Summary of Program Outcomes
Graduates are able to use special skills and knowledge related to the field to be able to meet the needs of students; speak Turkish accurately and efficiently, and to have the skills to effectively communicate with students and colleagues; have the pedagogical knowledge related to the teaching profession and subject area, to possess and make use of contemporary teaching methods and techniques, and assessment tools.
