Goals The goal of the lecture is to help students gain an insight about business management. It is aimed to help them learn about the general fuctions of a business and create an awareness about the roles they might be playing in a business environment and the skills they will need to do so. In addition; the benefits of managing the business with a strategic point of view and some of the tactics and strategies that companies pursue to survive, develop and maintain successful growth will be covered in order to create awareness.
Course Content General aspects of business management and functions of management (planning, organizing, directing and control) will be taught at the beginning. Afterwards; the primary areas in business management will be covered one by one; human resources management, financial management, marketing and sales, operations management and quality management, information systems and technology. Leadership, corporate governance, ethics and strategic management concepts will also be explained.
Learning Outcomes 1) Learns what it means to manage and what are the functions of management
2) Understand the primary functions of business management and explain their relation with the strategic management process of the company
3) Explain the basic concepts, principles and practices associated with strategy formulation and implementation.
4) Understand and analyze the strategic decisions given by companies
5) Learns the basic areas of expertise in business management and gains an insight about those areas
6) Understands the relationship inbetween the areas of expertise in business management
7) Gets accustomed to the concepts of business life and understands that business management is multidisciplinary
8) Gains an insight about the basic competencies required by business life
