Goals The aim of this course is to make students acquainted with various aspects of the 19th century novel. Students will improve their ability to study and analyse novels. In addition, the cultural and historical circumstances of the texts will be discussed.
Course Content The course engages with the development of the English novel especially in the first half of the 19th century. Novels of Charlotte Bronte, Emily Bronte and Mary Shelley are studied in detail.
Learning Outcomes 1) Introduces the various aspects of the 19th century British fiction and develops the skills of analysing novels.
2) The works of novelists such as C. Bronte, E. Brontë and M. Shelley are studied in detail.
3) Gives information about the cultural and historical aspects of the period in which the novels were written.
