No Program Requirements
1 Gain extensive chronological knowledge of English Language and Literature, from the emergence of English poetry, drama, novel and prose up to the 21st Century, as well as the historical, social, economic developments leading to the production of these works.
2 Gain general and basic knowledge of literary genres (features, examples and transformation in different periods) and acquire the ability to appreciate literary works in this respect.
3 Identify and evaluate the history and phases of English Literature, alongside literary, formal and stylistic features specific to each period, and identify, interpret and discuss historical, scientific, cultural, sociological and economic events linked to/influential on English Literature.
4 Interpret works of English Literature in line with classical and contemporary theories of literary criticism.
5 Comprehend the use of English language for various purposes, in different contexts and forms -daily language, official language, scientific language and literary language- and master spoken and written English.
6 Examine the historical development of different societies in comparative manner, with the help of newly gained knowledge and in the light of various points of view.
7 Translate English/Turkish texts into Turkish/English, and contribute to the recognition of Turkish works abroad through their translations into English, and to the field of science and arts by translating English works into Turkish.
8 Acquire the necessary skills to plan and conduct research, and to present it in spoken and written English, and employ English as the medium of academic research.
9 Employ contemporary teaching methods and techniques in teaching English and apply the computer skills essential for the field.
10 Assess research done in the field of English Language and Literature, recognise problems and offer solutions.
11 Conduct comparative literary studies based on their knowledge of and skills regarding English Language and Literature.
12 Act in accordance with academic and ethical principles in relation to their profession.
13 Continue to enhance their acquired knowledge and skills through lifelong learning.
14 Participate in intradisciplinary and interdisciplinary study groups.
15 Present their studies and criticisms on subjects concerning English Language and Literature, both in spoken and in written form.
