Goals The aim of this course is to make students acquainted with various aspects of the English novel in the second half of the 19th century and to help them improve their ability to study and analyse novels. The cultural and historical circumstances of the texts will be discussed.
Course Content Novels written in the second half of the nineteenth century are studied. Texts form novels are studied and analysed.
Learning Outcomes 1) Focuses on the development of the novel in the second half of the 19th century.
2) Works of novelists such as C. Dickens, G. Eliot, and E. Gaskell are analysed in detail.
3) Informs about the cultural and historical aspects of the period the novels were written in.
4) Focuses on the development of the novel genre in the second half of the 19th century.
