Goals The aim of this course is to make students acquainted with various aspects of English prose and poetry after 1950 and to help them improve their ability to read, interpret and analyse poems and essays and to study the general trends in poetry and prose of the late 20th century and early 21st centuries.
Course Content Poems and essays by poets and writers after 1950 are examined within their historical and literary context.
Learning Outcomes 1) The students can define English prose and poetry after 1950.
2) They develop skills of reading and anlaysing poetry.
3) They can give examples from the leading figures such as I.A. Richards, T. Hughes, P. Larkin, T. Gunn and they can examine these literary texts in detail.
4) They examine the concepts tradition and modernism in relation to literary texts
5) They have the knowledge of the literary criticism after 1950 and they can read and discuss articles by such authors as G. Orwell, J. Morris, C. Achebe
