Goals The aim of the course is to familiarize with the works of the playwrights, poets and prose writers of the period covered.
Course Content The course takes the Restoration Period into consideration first. Dryden’s satirical works and comedies of manners of the second half of the previous century are studied. The Age of Enlightenment, the classical influence on the writers of the period is considered.
Learning Outcomes 1) Ability to gain language competence through listening, reading, speaking, and writing
2) Ability to perform close reading on literary texts, recognise key passages and comprehend the literal and figurative uses of language
3) Ability to explore the structural elements of language in fiction, poetry, non-fiction prose and drama
4) Ability to analyse and interpret literary texts with a critical awareness
5) Appreciation of literary texts in their social, political, cultural, economic and historical contexts
