Goals With this course, it is aimed for students to describe the special education and inclusion process, the types of disabilities, the characteristics and educational needs of students with special needs, the evaluation process and the process of individualization of education depending on the diagnosis and evaluation results. In addition, it is aimed to define what adaptations can be made for teaching, problem behaviors, observation recording techniques, what can be done to reduce problem behaviors, and what can be done at the stage of increasing social acceptance.
Course Content Basic concepts of special education; principles and historical development of special education; legal regulations on special education; diagnosis and evaluation in special education; individualization of teaching; inclusion and support special education services; participation of the family in education and cooperation with the family; characteristics of different disability and ability groups; educational approaches and teaching strategies for different groups; effective strategies and behavior management in classroom management.
Learning Outcomes 1) Explain and exemplify the basic concepts of special education and inclusion.
2) Explain and summarize the historical development of special education and inclusion.
3) Defines the basic principles of special education and inclusion.
4) Explain and relate the diagnosis and evaluation process in special education.
5) Analyze the process of individualization of instruction by describing and discussing.
6) Explains inclusion and support special education services.
7) Makes comparisons by explaining the characteristics of different disability and ability groups.
8) Defines and compares educational approaches and teaching strategies for different disability and talent groups.
9) Explains what to do for behavior control in the classroom.
10) Defines what is needed to increase social acceptance.
