Goals This course aims to examine the effects of scientific and technological developments on social life in a historical perspective. In this context, it aims to understand why/how the scientific perspective has transformed the technological products from the antiquity to the present, and in which way they changed human life and social relations.
Course Content The relationship between science and technology in the past and present; current developments in science and technology; the effects of science and technology on social change; the common scientific legacy of humanity; famous Turkish and foreign scientists; tissue and organ transplantation; nanotechnology; the effect of contemporary scientific developments such as gene technology on social life.
Learning Outcomes 1) Recognizes relationships between science, technology and society
2) Understands the social changes that occur as a result of scientific and technological developments in the history of humanity.
3) Understands the historical and cultural dimensions of social change.
