About Program
Aquaculture Engineering Undergraduate Education in Turkey started under the leadership of Ankara University with the establishment of Aquaculture Department in 1974 in the Agriculture Faculty of Ankara University. First Undergraduate Students were taken to Aquaculture Department of Agriculture Faculty between 1979-1980 then Master and PhD Students were taken to Aquaculture Department in 1984.
Goals
The purpose of the Aquaculture Masters Program was to evaluate the existing potential in our seas and inland waters, train students in the Master's level for development of commercial Aquaculture in Turkey. We also aimed to sustain scientific research on aquaculture issues such as fish feed, fish diseases and fishery products, genetics and breeding, fishing, processing technology, fish biology, fish anatomy, water quality, plankton and aquatic plants.
Summary of Program Outcomes
Students, who graduate from the program, will have advanced knowledge in subjects such as fish health and disease, aquaculture feed technology and feeding, capture fisheries, fisheries management, biotechnology, processing and evaluation in life sciences. Students will be capable of research on related issues of Aquaculture, with knowledge according to current trends, capable of analytical thinking and problem solving, aware of ethical responsibilities, productive, contributing, sensitive to environment, developing welfare, capable of producing and spreading knowledge.
