About Program
Guidance and Psychological Counseling Program is an undergraduate program carried out under the Department of Educational Sciences. This program is the first in history; founded in 1965, in the Department of Psychological Services in Education, and has started its activities by the name of "Educational Psychology Chair" in the Faculty of Education, the first Faculty of Education in Turkey. In this respect, it is a pioneering program in the field of Psychological Counseling and Guidance. The language of instruction is Turkish. Graduates of the program, which takes approximately 70-80 students each year, are generally employed by the institutions such as Ministry of National Education, Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Services, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of National Defense, General Directorate of Security, Special Education Institutions, Special Education and Rehabilitation Centers, Private Psychological Counseling Centers, Family Counseling Centers. In addition to undergraduate education, master and doctoral education programs are offered in this program.
As of 2019; 2 Professors, 1 Associate Professor, 1 Doctorate Professor, 2 Doctoral Lecturers and 8 Research Assistants (1 program Research Assistant, 7 other universities on behalf of the program continue to graduate research Assistant Research Assistant) is working.
The Guidance and Counselling undergraduate program requires 163 credits consisting of theoretical and practical courses. The program receives students in accordance with their score at type TM (Turkish-Math) of the centralized university entrance exam. In the year of 2018, the minimum score for entry was 368,417 and the order of the student with the lowest score to be accepted was 46639 out of all students taking the exam nationwide.
Goals
The goal of the program is to train candidate counsellors who are sensitive to human and society, aware of the changing world and its problems; who comprehend the paradigm of 21st century; adopt humanistic and existentialist philosophy; being competent in counselling and guidance field and aware of ethical responsibilities; being able to use information communication technologies efficiently; being able to deliver effective counselling services in education, health, justice, social service, industry and other fields.
Summary of Program Outcomes
Knowledge on basic concepts, theories and approaches of counselling and guidance field; appling theoretical knowledge, principles and techniques in various working areas of counselling such as education, health, justice, industry etc; Acknowledge humanistic values, appreciate importance of lifelong learning, believe in democracy, human rights, and ethical values.
